Monger is 193 kms from Bumthang and one can take up to eight hours to reach there by car. One can enjoy one the most beautiful drives over the Himalayas ranges at a height of 3700m at the Thrimshingla pass. Along the way one will pass through many different vegetation zones and possibly catch sight of the red panda and flying squirrel. Mongar is eastern Bhutan’s second largest town with settlement scattered in the mountains. The town lies on the highway to Trashigang.
Mongar Dzong
It is considered a new Dzong and was built in the 1930s under the order of the third King Jigme Dorji Wangchuck. Located above the town, annual festival takes place in November. It is the administrative office of the district and houses 100 monks.
